Lake Tisza
± 50 min drive
Lake Tisza is the largest artificial lake in Hungary and a paradise for watersports: sailing, kayaking, pedal boating, windsurfing and fishing. With countless rare birds nesting here, it's also a top destination for bird lovers.
At the Ecocentre of Poroszló you can discover the nature of the lake, with a large freshwater aquarium. Walking and cycling paths run along marshes, forests and bird reserves — with a bit of luck you might spot beavers and deer.

Hortobágy
± 30 min drive
Hortobágy National Park is on the UNESCO World Heritage list: endless grasslands, marshes and wild animals in their natural habitat. See the stone Nine-Arch Bridge, the symbol of the puszta, and the impressive Hungarian grey cattle with their long horns.
Take a horseback ride or a carriage ride, watch the csikós riders at work and visit a traditional shepherd's farm. With more than 300 bird species, Hortobágy is a paradise for birdwatchers — in autumn, tens of thousands of cranes migrate through here.

Eger
± 1 h 15 min drive
Eger is one of the most beautiful cities in Hungary. The historic castle played a key role in history: in 1552 the defenders held their ground here against the Ottoman army. From the ramparts you can look out over the whole city.
Admire the cathedral, climb the Turkish minaret and wander through the alleys and squares full of cafés. End your day in the wine cellars of Szépasszony-völgy, the Valley of the Beautiful Women, with a glass of Egri Bikavér.

Egerszalók
± 1 h 10 min drive
Just outside Eger, warm, mineral-rich spring water flows over a slope and leaves behind white limestone terraces: the salt hill of Egerszalók. A natural phenomenon rarely seen in Europe.
Next to the hill lies a thermal spa where you can relax in the warm water yourself. Perfect to combine with a day in Eger.

Debrecen & Hajdúszoboszló
± 1 h drive
Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary. Climb the Great Church, an impressive Protestant church with a beautiful view over the city. The Déri Museum tells the history of the region, and MODEM showcases modern and contemporary art.
Taste the famous Debrecen sausage or Hortobágyi palacsinta, a savoury pancake filled with meat. Along the way lies Hajdúszoboszló, with an extensive complex of thermal baths, swimming pools and slides.

Miskolctapolca & Lillafüred
± 1 h drive
In the cave bath of Miskolctapolca you swim through natural cave passages in warm spring water — a unique experience.
A few kilometres further lies Lillafüred in the Bükk Mountains: the Palace Hotel by Lake Hámori, the highest waterfall in Hungary and forested walking trails. A wonderful day out in nature.

Tokaj
± 1 h 20 min drive
The wine landscape of Tokaj is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. This is where Tokaji Aszú is made, the golden sweet wine that has been world-famous for centuries.
Walk among the vineyards on the rolling hills, visit an old wine cellar and taste the wines at the winemakers themselves.

Budapest
± 2 h 30 drive
The capital of Hungary is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The Danube divides the city into hilly Buda and flatter Pest. Visit Buda Castle with its museums, and the Parliament building — a masterpiece on the inside too.
Relax in the Széchenyi Baths or the Gellért Baths, heated by thermal springs. In the evening, the Jewish Quarter beckons with trendy bars and restaurants where you can taste goulash, lángos and Hungarian wines.

On and along the Tisza
right from the door
The Tisza is just around the corner: the small marina and a fantastic fish restaurant are within walking distance. Go canoeing on the river and discover picturesque villages, unique flora and fauna, and beautiful landscapes along the way.
Or rent a bike from us (not electric) and explore the quiet roads and dykes along the Tisza at your own pace, with a stop at an inn for goulash soup or paprika snacks.
